Oh it’s good to have Rebels back again.

So this episode was awesome! I was a little worried we would have a slower few episodes after the season premiere, that wasn’t the case. Instantly, ‘The Holocrons of Fate’ dived right into what we wanted to see and gave us possibilities I don’t think we knew were coming. Only worry now is can they keep this momentum going.

Before we get to his final scene, I want to touch on just Maul himself. Although I never thought he was good, there was a moment last season I thought maybe Maul wasn’t as coldblooded as Vader or the other Siths we’ve seen. Well he came into this episode and showed he was still the evil Maul we know. The way he looks, carries himself and Sam Witwer’s incredible voice work, is making Maul my favorite villain on the show…. and there’s a lot of villains. Unfortunately I feel like it’s going to be a while before we see him again but I’m sure when we do it’s going to be crazy, if my hopes come true.

I like all the characters on the show but ultimately it’s all about Kanan and Ezra. They were the focus of this episode and I love the direction they are going with these two. I was worried we would spend several episodes with them apart and not speaking to each other but we got through that this week in an awesome scene. The spider episode last season was one of the filler episodes I really enjoyed and I’ve been thrilled to see the spiders be used so far in season 3. They’ve been a great way to showcase different aspects of the force and have been showing us Kanan’s way of using the force now he’s blind. We got a tease that there’s still hope for Kanan’s sight but personally I like the idea of a blind Jedi and the creativity problems it causes for the writers. ‘The Holocrons of Fate’ gave us some nice character building moments with Kanan and Ezra, continuing to build towards the probable darkside turn.

The Bendu is my new favorite character! This guy is stealing season 3 in these opening few episodes. The idea of a force users not swaying to one side of the force but rather somewhere in the middle, is something I had never really thought about before but now it’s one of the things I’m most anticipating for this season. You don’t really know what The Bendu is going to do. If he uses both the dark and light side, what’s stopping him from doing something evil? We don’t know his motives or if he even has any and if there are any more of him. Tom Baker is playing him with such power and holds a presence on screen without even being visible, I can’t wait to delve deeper into this character, who right is shrouded in mystery.

OK… so that Holocron scene was intense. First of all it looked amazing. The animation has always been spot on in this show and yet again they produced a visually stunning sequence. The Holocrons combining gave me a Harry Potter wand battle or Dragon Ball Z fight vibe, it just looked so cool and then Kanan’s force vision was beautiful. I was on the edge of my seat throughout this scene, despite never actually thinking anyone would die and then it left me screaming at the screen when we got the Holocron reveal.

Are we going to see OBI-WAN vs MAUL ON REBELS!?! “Twin Suns” and then Maul repeating “He lives” can only be a reference to his old rival Obi-Wan. I don’t see how that could be interpreted any other way, don’t let me down Filoni. Personally I wanted to see the final battle between Obi-Wan and Maul on the big screen, in live-action but I’ll happily accepted on Rebels. If it happens though, I can’t see Maul making it out alive so we’ll probably be saying goodbye to the former Sith.

Star Wars Rebels is back and it’s coming out the gate strong. If I had one complaint it would be that I really want to see more Admiral Thrawn but we’ve still got lots of episodes left.

What did you think of this weeks Star Wars Rebels?
