Tonight the 23rd SAG awards are taking place and I’ll (probably) be watching the show. But first lets take a look at all the nominations in the film categories and who I think will and should win.

Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture

Nominations

Captain America: Civil War

Doctor Strange

Hacksaw Ridge

Jason Bourne

Nocturnal Animals

What will win – Hacksaw Ridge

What should win – Captain America: Civil War

I really like this category and it’s one that should definitely be a part of the Oscars. Personally I think the stunts in Civil War were incredible and would be my pick but I see the SAGs leaning towards Hacksaw Ridge, which I wouldn’t be upset with either. Not sure why Nocturnal Animals was nominated, loved the film but don’t know if it had one of the 5 best stunts of the year.

Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture

Nominations

Captain Fantastic

Fences

Hidden Figures

Manchester by the Sea

Moonlight

What will win – Moonlight

What should win – Moonlight

This is a hard list of nominations. All of these films had great casts, with excellent performances, any of these 5 would be deserving winners. I think Moonlight will get it but I would also be happy with Captain Fantastic getting the nod too.

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role

Nominations

Viola Davis – Fences

Naomie Harris – Moonlight

Nicole Kidman – Lion

Octavia Spencer – Hidden Figures

Michelle Williams – Manchester by the Sea

Who will win – Viola Davis – Fences

Who should win – Viola Davis – Fences

Another strong category but Viola Davis is winning. It’s nothing against any of the other women nominated, it’s just this is Viola Davis’ year, she’s winning the SAG award and she’s winning the Oscar.

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role

Nominations

Mahershala Ali – Moonlight

Jeff Bridges – Hell or High Water

Hugh Grant – Florence Foster Jenkins

Lucas Hedges – Manchester by the Sea

Dev Patel – Lion

Who will win – Mahershala Ali – Moonlight

Who should win – Dev Patel – Lion

Mahershala Ali was fantastic in Moonlight but for me he wasn’t in the film enough. I wanted to see more of him and I think one of the three actors who played the main character in Moonlight was more deserving of a nomination. Ali will probably get the win but I wouldn’t rule out Dev Patel and it’s whom I would like to see win too.

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role

Nominations

Amy Adams – Arrival

Emily Blunt – The Girl on the Train

Natalie Portman – Jackie

Emma Stone – La La Land

Meryl Streep – Florence Foster Jenkins

Who will win – Emma Stone – La La Land

Who should win – Emma Stone – La La Land

More than any other category this one is a lock. Just like Viola Davis, Emma Stone is winning tonight and the Oscar is hers too. And very well deserved.

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role

Nominations

Casey Affleck – Manchester by the Sea

Andrew Garfield – Hacksaw Ridge

Ryan Gosling – La La Land

Viggo Mortensen – Captain Fantastic

Denzel Washington – Fences

Wh0 will win – Casey Affleck – Manchester by the Sea

Wh0 should win – Casey Affleck – Manchester by the Sea

Although personally, I didn’t like Manchester by the Sea, I can’t deny Casey Affleck was a powerhouse and gave the best male lead performance of the year. It was an understated performance, that even tho I wasn’t fully invested in the film, I was invested in Affleck. Again, this is a stacked category and I wouldn’t be upset with one of the other actors winning.

What are your predictions for tonight?
